Winter Weather Reminders!!!!

January 5, 2010 by shawnlenney

With the snow already here and more on the way throughout the next few months, I wanted to remind everyone that this web page is the main line of communication for any band event cancellations.  Sometimes school cancellations and band event cancellations don’t always coincide.  For instance, it is possible for school to be cancelled but still have a basketball game in the evening.  It might also be possible for school to be in session with bad weather coming during the evening hours causing a cancellation of a concert or basketball game.  When in doubt check this web site for any performance cancellations!!!!

Basketball Band 2009-2010 Guidelines & Schedule

November 30, 2009 by shawnlenney

The band plays at ALL boys’ home games along with four girls games throughout the basketball season.  The basketball band does not travel to away games during the regular season.  If the teams make it to a certain level of the post season we will take a small band but there are only certain games per the Ohio Athletic Association that bands are permitted to attend.    Remember all Marching Band/Concert Band members are also members of the basketball band.  Attendance at these games is part of your grade!  If you are absent from school due to illness then you will be excused from the game.  If you can’t make one of the games due to a death in the family or family travel/vacation you will need to bring me a parental note and your absence will be excused.  Work and homework are not reasons to miss a performance.  If you are involved in a winter sport (basketball/cheerleading etc.) you will be excused from the games in which you are participating.  Please make an effort to let me know ahead of time if you will be missing a game so I can make plans update my roster for the game.  The rules for basketball Band are listed below and the schedule for this year is listed on the back!

  • We will meet and rehearse at 6:00PM (Excluding the two games over winter break)
  • This year I would like for you to wear your summer band shirt (red polo) to the games
  • After we rehearse we will head to the gymnasium sometime during the 4th quarter of the Junior Varsity Game
  • We play as soon as the JV game is over so we need to be in our seats and ready to go by the end of their game
  • Once we leave the band room the doors will be locked and you will not be permitted to return to the band room without permission from Mr. Lenney
  • We have more opportunities to play throughout before and during the game so you must be ready to play at all times.
  • You will be given the 3rd quarter off to take a break and go to the concession stand for some food
  • Each band member will be given a ticket for one food item and one drink free of charge on behalf of the band boosters.
  • You will not be permitted to go back to the band room during the third quarter.  There is plenty of room to eat in the commons.
  • YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO TOUCH ANY OF THE EQUIPMENT IN THE WEIGHT ROOM!!!
  • Due to the increased number of band members we will only permit BAND MEMBERS to sit or stand with the band so let you friends know before the season starts!!!
  • Positive comments only throughout the game!!!!
  • No food or drink will be permitted in the gym including our stands!!  We need to take care of our area!!!

Audition Tips

June 30, 2009 by J. Brown

On the Pioneer Drama website, playwright and actor Patrick Rainville Dorn has posted several articles that can help you prepare for the dreaded experience of auditioning.

  • Frightful Auditions: “Auditions are a necessary evil, and we can make the best of them. It’s sort of like going to the dentist. You’ve got to do it, but you can do things ahead of time to make it as painless as possible.”
  • Warming Up your Cold Reading Skills, Part 1: “…How do you prepare for those auditions where the director wants you to read a scene from the script? You begin by practicing the skills of cold reading.”
  • Warming Up your Cold Reading Skills, Part 2: “You don’t always have to go into a cold reading blind.”

Conquering Stage Fright

June 16, 2009 by J. Brown

For better or worse, everyone suffers from stage fright at one point or another. Actress Mira Furlan (Babylon 5 and Lost) loves it and described the rush she felt onstage for the first time: “Nothing could match that flow of adrenaline.” Most of us, though, feel more like Elvis Presley, who treats it as something to overcome: “I’ve never gotten over what they call stage fright. I go through it every show.” Whether you consider that adrenaline rush as good or bad, it can affect your memory, and that is clearly not good when you’re onstage! What can you do to combat stage fright? Playwright Charlie Lovett shares some thoughts on the subject.

These two sweet spinsters have a secret mission and a recipe for elderberry wine that really packs a punch. As Mortimer tries to navigate his family’s eccentricities while keeping his fiancée none the wiser, his sociopathic brother shows up with a taste for vengeance and a sidekick named Einstein. Will Mortimer make it to his wedding day, or fall victim to the family insanity first?

The Wedding Singer

Auditions Nov. 16 & 17, 2009
Performances March 12 & 13, 2010 @ 7:30 pm, March 14 @ 2:30 pm
Due to schedule conflicts, the performance dates are still being worked out.
Check back here later for updates!

It’s 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Heart is New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party, until his own fiancee leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. Only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. With a brand new score that pays loving homage to the pop songs of the 1980’s, THE WEDDING SINGER takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room.
